Kirkwood flies to a victory, 65-39

Second-ranked Kirkwood Community College jumped out on top early and handed Ellsworth Community College a 65-39 loss.

For the game, ECC was 15 of 55 shooting and just 3-28 from beyond the arc. As a team, they committed 29 turnovers.

In the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference opener, the Panthers (4-3, 0-1) found themselves down 10-1 in the opening quarter and did not score their first field goal until the 3:18 mark. With one minute remaining, the difference was double figures for the first time (13-3) and was 16-3 after the that first 10 minutes. The Panthers shot just seven percent during that stretch.

ECC settled down in the middle two quarters and played better and the deficit was 31-17 at the break and 47-33 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Similar to the first quarter, the Panthers made just two field goals down the stretch and were 0-9 from beyond the arc.

Asia Beale was the lone ECC player to reach double figures for the visitors, finishing with 12 points.

The Eagles (5-0, 1-0) shot 42 percent from the floor and only made three triples as well.
