Ellsworth Community College recorded a 67-51 victory over Central Community College to bounce back following a seven-point loss to Iowa Central earlier in the week.
The Raiders (5-12, 1-8) are currently tied for 10th in the standings and ECC is two spots above in eighth.
The visitors scored six of the final 10 points of the first quarter to go on top 17-14 after 10 minutes. Addy Dennis drained a long ball to even the score at 17-17 and the Panthers went on a 12-0 run – that included three triples – to lead 26-17 – with just under five and a half minutes left to go before the half. The hosts led by double figures (31-20) at the half.
Central steadily came back and cut the deficit to six but Claudia Sanz Dorange's steal and basket pushed the lead back up to eight (41-33) and it would be 12 going into the final 10 minutes of the game.
ECC (8-7, 4-5) would keep their foot on the gas and record the 16-point victory.
The hosts shooting wasn't much better, but the defense forced 30 turnovers by the Raiders. The hosts hit 10 three pointers (10 of 34) and were 13 of 22 from the free throw line. Seven of eight players scored with four in double figures. Asia Beale had a double-double with 18 point and 12 rebounds while Dorange tallied 10 points and 11 steals. Inma Martinez (13 points) and Rebekka Holm (12 points) also had double figure nights.
The Panthers are on the road all this week at No. 16 Iowa Lakes on Wednesday and then Iowa Western on Saturday.
