With just five healthy bodies on the roster, Ellsworth Community College's 48-10 loss to NIACC doesn't seem as bad when broken down.
The Panthers dropped three of the five bouts, losing those 15-10.
"We talked about effort and confidence which I think go hand-in-hand," ECC head coach Diorian Coleman said. "If you have confidence, you're effort goes up, or if you give a lot effort then maybe your confidence goes up. I wanted to really see that tonight. Things didn't happen the way I wanted it to happen, but it's not like I was disappointed."
The Trojans took the first weights, booking forfeits at 125, 133, 149, and 165, and pins at 141 and 157. NIACC also earned a freebie at 184 and a third fall at 197.
At 197, Jiraiya Fonseca, nearly flipped the narrative in the opening seconds of his match when he threw Corbin Hill with a lateral. But he couldn't get the cover and was stopped with a throw himself in 52 seconds.
The Panthers got on the board with a major decision at 174 as Josh Berlin scored four takedowns on the way to the 14-6 win over Logan Straub. He gave up a late stalling point and an uncontested reversal to let the match finish closer than it maybe was.
Tafari Parker picked up ECC's second win, closing the dual out with a pair of takedowns before pinning Shantavous White in 2:50 with a butcher.
