Comebacks fall just short

Ellsworth Community College rallied twice on the road at Northeast Community College before falling by 8-7 and 9-4 scores.

The Panthers (19-31, 5-23) trailed the Hawks 7-1 heading into the sixth frame in the opening game. ECC scored six runs in the inning to even the score but gave up one in the bottom to make it 8-7.

ECC's bats were in full swing in the loss, tallying 10 hits in the loss. Jolene Jordahl was 3-4 at the dish with a double, home run and three runs batted in. Melanie Khounsourath also had a two-run dinger. Ella Garstang and Payton Nolan also had doubles. Three pitchers threw in the contest, with Peytin Clemensen taking the loss. Jordahl started the game and threw the first four innings and allowed seven hits, one run, one walk. Millicent Wurst threw an inning and allowed three hits and walked four and then Clemensen threw the final frame with two hits and a run.

NECC (15-36, 7-21) once again built a lead in the second game, on top 3-0 heading into the fifth. The Panthers took the lead for the first time, tallying four runs in the top of the inning. The hosts knotted the score and then put up five runs in the sixth for the win.
Offensively, Khounsourath had her second dinger and tallied three RBI. Emmalee Bell and Emery Walton each had doubles in the contest.

Wurst threw 5.1 innings and took the loss, giving up 15 hits, nine runs and striking out one. The Hawks tallied two home runs. Jordahl got the final two outs of the game.
ECC's games at Central Community College were moved from Saturday to Monday.
