Ellsworth Community College traveled to Iowa Lakes Community College on Monday and suffered a pair of 8-3 and 4-3 losses.
The Panthers outhit the hosts in the second but just could not translate that into runs. ECC opened with a 2-0 lead, scoring in the top of the first. The advantage reached 3-0 midway through the sixth before the Lakers cut the deficit to 3-2 after six.
In the bottom of the seventh, ILCC started off with a walk. A misplayed bunt allowed one on and the runner to advance to third. A double to left field evened the score and moved the winning run in scoring position. A passed ball scored as the Lakers walked off with the 4-3 victory.
Ella Garstang led with a pair of hits, Payton Nolan had a double and Jolene Jordahl a pair of RBIs. Taking the loss in the circle was Alexis Obermeier, who went six innings and allowed five hits and one walk.
In the opener, ILCC scored two runs in the second and third and then added one in the fourth to lead 5-0 before the Panthers got on the board. While ECC cut into the deficit in the fifth on an error and single, the Lakers scored three more runs in the fifth. The visitors added a solo homer by Emmalee Bell in the sixth and earned another run in the seventh but it wasn't enough. Offensively, Cambree Sanders and Garstang also had hits.
Millicent Wurst took the loss and threw five innings and allowed six hits, eight runs walked six and fanned three. Peytin Clemensen came in for the final inning and gave up two hits and a walk.
