Visiting Des Moines Area Community College built a 12-run lead after two and a half innings and went on to record a 17-5 victory over the Ellsworth Community College at Cadet Field on Tuesday.

DMACC jumped on Panther starting pitcher Sam Wirag for four runs in the first, two in the second and six in the third to take a 12-0 advantage.

Wirag walked four and recorded just eight outs. He gave up 12 runs and 10 of them were earned.

ECC looked to turn some of the momentum toward their dugout in the bottom of the third. Eric McGill connected for a home run as part of a three-run frame for the offense.

The Panthers added their other two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but trailed 13-5 at that point.

DMACC ended the game early with four runs in the top of the seventh, as the Bears finished with 12 hits.

Offensively, Dylan Phelps and Maddox O'Connor led ECC with two-hit games and one RBI apiece. McGill drove in a pair and Lucas Bruhl and Jacob Koerselman were also responsible for RBIs for the Panthers.

The loss dropped ECC to 11-19 overall and 2-3 in Region XI. The Bears improved to 14-17 and 2-3.
